Today, your Everest Gokyo Trek via Salleri begins with a scenic jeep ride from Kathmandu to Phaplu, covering approximately 275 kilometers in 8 to 9 hours. Along the way, you’ll enjoy views of rural Nepal, with terraced hills, farms, and winding mountain roads. Phaplu, a small village surrounded by forested hills and home to a local airport, marks the starting point of your trek. From Phaplu, you’ll hike to Ringmo, a charming Rai and Sherpa village, and then continue to Takshindo—famous for its traditional cheese factory that produces yak and mountain goat cheese. Along the trail from Salleri to Ringmo, you’ll encounter Sherpa and Rai locals working in the fields.
In the morning, you will visit monasteries, mani stones, gompas, and historic sculptures in Taksindo. From the Taksindo peak, enjoy panoramic views of Salleri. Your trek then continues to Kharikhola, a 10.7-kilometer descent along the Dudh Koshi River, passing through terraced farms, forests, and several Sherpa villages, including Nunthala and Jubhing. After a hearty breakfast and warm hospitality from the Magar people in Kharikhola, you'll begin your trek. The 11-kilometer journey to Paiya takes about 6 to 7 hours. The trail starts with a descent to a river, crossing a suspension bridge before sharply ascending through dense woods to Bupsa village. You'll then pass through a monkey-inhabited forest on your way to Kharte. From there, a steep climb leads to the Khari La Pass, offering views of Gyanchung Kang, Khumbila Mountain, and Tham Danda. After a slippery descent and crossing a small river, you'll reach Paiya.
After a hearty breakfast in Paiya, you’ll continue your Everest Gokyo Trek via Salleri toward Phakding. The trek covers about 10.6 kilometers and takes approximately 6 to 7 hours. From Paiya, the trail leads through the Dudh Koshi canyon and over the Chutok La Pass to Surke. A gradual ascent across a suspension bridge brings you to Lukla, a Sherpa-dominated village where local culture is evident in every home and building. Interestingly, the distance from Salleri to Lukla is about 26.2 kilometers. From Lukla, you’ll pass fields of potatoes and barley on the way to Chheplung, then continue on an easy trail through Ghat village and Thado Koshi to reach Phakding. After wholesome breakfast in Phakding, you will continue your Everest Gokyo via Salleri Journey toward Namche Bazaar. The approximate 11-kilometer distance between Phakding and Namche Bazaar may be accomplished on foot in 6 to 7 hours. To get to Bengkar, you must cross a suspension bridge and pass a gorgeous waterfall. You will have a sight of the lovely Thamserku Mountain just after five minutes of walking. To get to the village of Monjo, you must pass through a pine forest, a tiny gorge, and several minor streams. The 4.43-kilometer trek from Gokyo to Dragnag takes about 4 to 5 hours.
After an overnight stay in Thangnak, you'll begin a challenging climb over steep terrain and glacier moraines to reach the summit of Cho La Pass. The ascent can be hazardous, especially when snow-covered. After several hours of hiking, you'll arrive at the top, rewarded with breathtaking views of Cho La Lake and Mt. Cholatse. The descent is cold and slippery, requiring caution, but the surrounding scenery remains beautiful throughout. After roughly seven hours of trekking, you’ll reach Dzongla, your destination for the day. The total distance from Dragnag to Dzongla is approximately 9.38 kilometers.
After leaving Dzongla, you'll descend toward Chola Lake, following the moraine. The trail gently winds past a small glacial lake, offering scenic views of Cholatse, Taboche, and the smaller Chola Glacier. As you continue, you'll follow the Khumbu Glacier toward Ama Dablam, passing memorials dedicated to climbers who lost their lives in the region. Compared to the previous day, the hike to Lobuche is more manageable, following the Imja Khola along the way. After about four hours, you’ll reach Lobuche and rejoin the main Everest Base Camp trekking route. From there, it's another three hours to Gorakshep. Today marks a memorable milestone as you reach Everest Base Camp. After leaving your belongings in Gorakshep, you'll begin the ascent to EBC. Best Season to Trek
The best times to trek are spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November), when weather is stable and views are stunning. While winter (December–February) offers clear views, it can be extremely cold and snow-covered. Summer (June–August) brings monsoon rains, making the trail slippery, especially at lower altitudes. However, experienced trekkers looking to avoid crowds may still enjoy trekking during off-seasons.
Meals During the Trek
You will receive three meals daily:
- Breakfast: Pancakes, cornflakes, local bread, chapati, porridge, eggs (any style), toast, muesli with milk, hash browns.
- Lunch & Dinner: Similar to breakfast, with additional soups (tomato, mushroom, garlic, vegetable, chicken).

- In Kathmandu, you’ll stay in a three-star hotel for two nights.
- Along the trek, you’ll stay in teahouses, which are simple, traveler-friendly lodges with basic facilities—typically shared rooms, foam beds, and limited heating. Hot showers and electricity are available at most locations, sometimes for an extra fee. Double rooms are standard, especially during peak seasons when single rooms are scarce.
Trek Difficulty
The trek is moderate to challenging, especially for first-time trekkers. Expect to hike 5–6 hours daily on rugged trails with steep ascents and descents.
