14-Day Annapurna Circuit Trek Itinerary

Your adventure begins with an early morning bus ride from Kathmandu to Bhulbule, followed by a shared jeep to Dharapani, offering scenic views of charming villages, terraced hillsides, and mountain landscapes. The official trek starts in Dharapani and continues to Chame, where you’ll spend the night.

From Chame, the trail leads to Upper Pisang, offering spectacular views of Lamjung Himal, Annapurna II, and Annapurna III. You’ll then trek to Manang, passing Tibetan-style villages and breathtaking peaks like Gangapurna, Tilicho, and Pisang Peak. After a day of acclimatization in Manang, the journey continues to Ledar.

Next, you’ll hike to Thorong Phedi, with the option to stay overnight at Thorong High Camp, weather permitting. From there, you’ll tackle a steep climb to Thorong La Pass (5,416m)—the highest point on the trek—before descending to the sacred pilgrimage site of Muktinath, revered by both Hindus and Buddhists.

After staying in Muktinath, you’ll head to Tukuche via Jomsom, a bustling trade hub. The trail then leads through Ghasa to Tatopani, where natural hot springs offer a well-earned chance to relax and rejuvenate. Useful Information: Annapurna Full Circuit Trek

Best Time to Trek

The best times to trek the Annapurna Full Circuit are September to November (autumn) and March to May (spring). During these months, the weather is generally clear and dry, with mild temperatures ideal for trekking.

  • September to November: Post-monsoon season with clean trails, excellent visibility, and blooming rhododendron forests.
  • March to May: Spring season offering clear skies and warmer daytime temperatures.

Weather in the Annapurna region can be unpredictable, so be prepared for occasional rain or snow, even in peak seasons. Always have a contingency plan.

Meals During the Trek

Meals—breakfast, lunch, and dinner—are served at local tea houses. Breakfast and dinner are provided at the lodge where you spend the night, while lunch is served at scenic spots along the trail.

You can expect a mix of Nepalese, Tibetan, Indian, and continental cuisines, including:

  • Dal Bhat (rice with lentils and curry)
  • Mo:Mo (dumplings)
  • Pasta, soups, noodles, bread, eggs, and potato-based dishes
  • Limited meat options (not recommended, as meat is transported from Pokhara or Kathmandu and may not be fresh)

Important Notes:

  • Snacks, drinks, desserts, and bottled water usually cost extra.
  • Carry iodine tablets or water purifiers. Boiled, filtered, or packaged water is available for a fee.

Accommodation

You will stay in basic teahouses or lodges throughout the 14-day trek. Accommodations offer:

  • Simple wooden beds, pillows, mattresses, and blankets
  • Limited luxury amenities
  • Hot showers (solar or electric), with a few lodges offering en suite hot and cold showers

While facilities are modest, the teahouses provide a warm, communal atmosphere with stunning views of the Annapurna range. Due to high demand in peak season, book early to secure your stay.

Trek Difficulty

The Annapurna Full Circuit Trek is moderate to challenging, covering around 230 km over 12 to 20 days, depending on the itinerary. The highest point is Thorong La Pass (5,416 meters / 17,769 feet).

  • The early sections are relatively easy, with gradual ascents along the Marsyangdi River.
  • The trail becomes steeper and more demanding closer to Thorong La Pass.

Proper acclimatization is crucial, as the risk of altitude sickness increases above 3,000 meters. Physical fitness, preparation, and pacing are essential for a successful trek.

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is highly recommended and often required by trekking agencies. It should cover:

  • Medical emergencies and evacuation (including helicopter rescue)
  • Trip cancellations or interruptions
  • Loss or theft of personal items

Due to the remote nature of the region, having insurance provides peace of mind and financial protection in emergencies. Always read the policy carefully to ensure it covers high-altitude trekking.

Altitude Sickness & Prevention

Altitude sickness, or acute mountain sickness (AMS), is a serious risk on this trek. Common symptoms include headache, nausea, fatigue, shortness of breath, and insomnia.

Prevention Tips:

  • Ascend gradually and follow a proper acclimatization schedule
  • Avoid alcohol and sleep at higher altitudes during early stages
  • Stay hydrated and take rest days
  • Use medications like acetazolamide if needed (consult a doctor)

If symptoms worsen, descend immediately. For those with a history of AMS, carry oxygen or consider hiring a guide.

Packing List

Here’s a general checklist for your trek:

  • Hiking boots with ankle support
  • Sleeping bag (rated to -10°C to -15°C)
  • 60–70L backpack
  • Waterproof jacket and pants
  • Warm layers: down jacket, thermals, fleece, hat, gloves
  • Headlamp
  • First aid kit
  • Sunscreen and sunglasses
  • Water bottles or hydration pack
  • Trekking poles
  • Personal hygiene items (wipes, sanitizer, toilet paper)

Adjust the list based on personal needs and the season.

Guides and Safety

While not mandatory, hiring a guide is strongly recommended. A guide can:

  • Navigate the trail and handle logistics
  • Offer insights into local culture and weather
  • Assist in emergencies or if you experience altitude sickness

Guides also help with safety on tricky paths and suspension bridges. Consider hiring a porter to reduce your load and fatigue.
