The Mohare Danda and Khopra Danda Trek offers one of Nepal’s most spectacular off-the-beaten-path experiences, immersing you in remote highland life, rich local culture, and the untouched beauty of the western Himalayas. This unique route combines two lesser-known yet stunning viewpoints—Mohare Danda and Khopra Danda—offering panoramic vistas that rival the region’s more popular treks.
Unlike the crowded trails of the classic Ghorepani Poonhill route, this trek takes you higher and deeper into the Annapurna region, unveiling jaw-dropping views from the summit of Khopra Danda. Along the way, you’ll also have the chance to explore Poonhill and Mohare Danda—both renowned for their sunrise views over snow-capped peaks like Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, and Machhapuchhre.
This journey is more than just a hike—it’s an opportunity to experience the heart of Nepal. From the vibrant city of Pokhara to peaceful mountain villages, every step connects you with the natural and cultural wonders that make the Annapurna region one of the world’s premier trekking destinations.
Overview
The Mohare Danda and Khopra Danda Trek is a scenic alternative to the traditional Ghorepani Poonhill route. While it includes visits to popular viewpoints like Poonhill and Mohare Danda, this trek takes you even higher—offering breathtaking panoramic views from the summit of Khopra Danda. Along the way, you’ll explore charming villages, immerse yourself in local culture, and witness the unspoiled beauty of Nepal’s Annapurna region.
The journey begins with a 205 km drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara, followed by an 85 km ride to Galeshwor, the trek’s starting point. From there, the trail winds through terraced hillsides, dense forests, and remote villages. You’ll frequently ascend and descend along the route, staying overnight in community lodges and homestays that support local livelihoods.
After crossing the Kali Gandaki Bridge, the trek ascends to Mallaj and continues to the beautiful village of Bas Kharka. The following days take you through Nangi and up to Mohare Danda, where you’ll enjoy stunning sunrises, sunsets, and views of snow-capped peaks such as Nilgiri, Tukuche, and Machhapuchhre.
From Mohare, the trail leads to the iconic Poonhill viewpoint, then on to Ghorepani and the quiet village of Swanta. The next day, you’ll ascend to Khopra Danda—a hidden gem offering unmatched Himalayan vistas in every direction. For those seeking an extra adventure, a hike to Khayar Lake (4,660 meters), nestled below Annapurna South, is an unforgettable highlight.
The descent begins from Khopra Danda to Tadapani, followed by a scenic trek to Ghandruk—a picturesque Gurung village known for its warm hospitality. From Ghandruk, you’ll drive back to Pokhara and continue on to Kathmandu, marking the end of your incredible trekking journey.
