Step into the untouched wilderness of western Nepal with the Rara Lake Yoga Trek, a soulful journey that blends natural beauty with inner peace. Tucked away in one of the country’s most remote regions, Rara Lake is a hidden gem where nature remains raw, undisturbed, and incredibly serene. Surrounded by lush forests and snow-capped peaks, this shimmering freshwater lake—fed by glacial melt—rests peacefully at an elevation of 3,000 meters and spans 10.8 square kilometers.
Practicing yoga by the lake, with the majestic reflections of Api Himal and Saipal glistening on its surface, is a truly mesmerizing experience. It’s the perfect place to breathe deeply, find stillness, and feel a profound connection to the earth.
Unlike more crowded trekking routes, the Rara Lake Yoga Trek takes you through one of Nepal’s least explored areas. Because of its remoteness, the region has remained largely untouched by mass tourism, preserving its pristine landscapes and traditional way of life. Located within Rara National Park, the lake is surrounded by diverse flora and fauna—including over 200 species of birds and elusive wildlife like the Himalayan Black Bear, Ghoral, and Thar.
Whether you’re seeking solitude, adventure, or spiritual rejuvenation, this trek offers a rare opportunity to immerse yourself in a pure and peaceful Himalayan sanctuary.

Located in the Terai region, Nepalgunj features flat terrain and a warm climate. After breakfast, you’ll fly to Jumla, a scenic valley known for cultivating red rice at one of the world’s highest elevations. As the administrative center of both the Jumla district and the Karnali zone, Jumla is a key hub in the region. Note that alcohol is not served here, as it is a designated dry area. Your Rara Lake Yoga Trek officially begins in this mountainous region.
On trekking days, you'll begin with a morning yoga session to enhance your performance. Afterward, you'll hike across high terrain, descending through hills and forests. Passing through the bustling Khalanga Bazaar, you'll reach Chere Chaur—a scenic grassland ideal for your evening meditation practice.
Start your day with a rejuvenating morning yoga session as you walk along paths lined with birch, pine, and rhododendron trees. Carefully ascend the Jaljala Pass to take in stunning views of Kanjiroba Himal. Afterward, a short hike brings you to Chala Chaur, a small pasture famous for its local herders. You can also hold your evening meditation session here or at the lodge.
After your morning yoga session, you’ll journey through a remote area, following the Hima and Jaljala rivers along forest paths. Eventually, you’ll reach Sinja Valley, once home to the ancient Malla rulers from the 12th to 14th century. After exploring the area’s decorated antiques, you can continue with your evening meditation session.
The morning yoga class may be a bit chilly due to the high elevation. However, as you hike through the forest, you'll encounter wildlife and streams. After a quick tea break in Laha and lunch in Gani, the challenging trails will lead you to Ghorosingha, where you can relax and join a meditation session.
After your yoga session, you'll climb the cliffs of Chucharmare Danda to reach Rara. Enjoy the peaceful views of the distant mountains and the blue Rara Lake below. From Majhghat, you'll follow the Khatyar River to reach the lake. Surrounded by vibrant greenery, Rara Lake offers a serene atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for meditation.
After your restorative yoga session, you'll head to Pina, passing through lush, clean surroundings as the elevation begins to decrease. A leisurely walk brings you to Gamgadhi, the administrative center of Mugu district. Interact with the locals before continuing to Pina. After your evening meditation, enjoy a well-deserved rest.
After your morning yoga session, you'll depart Pina and ascend to the 3,280-meter-high Ghurchi Lagna Pass. Continuing through several villages, you'll eventually reach Bumra, also known as Nauri Ghat.
After your morning yoga session, you'll begin your journey from Bura to Jumla. You'll cross two bridges over the Hima River before reaching a hot spring, where you can relax and soothe your body aches. From there, continue your trek to cross Danphe Lagna Pass at 3,691 meters. Finally, head to Cherechaur, where you can return to Jumla.
Start the day with a short yoga session before departing Jumla. Fly to Nepalgunj, then rest before heading to Kathmandu. Be sure to shop for souvenirs in Kathmandu. You can either continue your travels or return home. We hope you enjoyed your time with us, no matter your choice.

For a unique experience, early December is ideal for witnessing a frozen Rara Lake, but winter treks are more challenging and require extra preparation.
Meals on the Trek
Meals are simple but nutritious. Due to its remote location, the Rara region has limited tourism infrastructure compared to more popular treks. The staple meal is Dal Bhat Tarkari—steamed rice with lentil soup, vegetables, and side dishes—served for both lunch and dinner. Vegetarian and non-vegetarian options are available, but we recommend sticking to vegetarian meals for freshness and hygiene.
Accommodation
Accommodation is in basic teahouses or homestays, with the option for camping. Rooms are clean with double beds and fresh blankets, though mattresses may be firm. Bathrooms are usually shared and located outside the room; private ones may be available in some areas. Amenities are minimal, and hot showers are not guaranteed at every stop.
