Itinerary
Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, our representative will greet you and transfer you to your hotel in a private tourist vehicle.
Once you're settled at the hotel, we will schedule a trip briefing at the hotel lobby or restaurant.
After breakfast at the hotel, you’ll take a tourist bus to Pokhara, a journey of 8 to 9 hours. Along the way, enjoy views of the scenic Trishuli and Marsyangdi rivers winding through lush, rocky hills, with glimpses of connecting streams and waterfalls. Pokhara is a picturesque valley known for its tranquil lakes—Begnas, Fewa, Rupa, Dipang, Maidi, Khaste, Gunde, and Nyureni—and offers stunning views of the Annapurna, Machapuchare, Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, and Lamjung Himal ranges.
After breakfast, you’ll take a private vehicle from Pokhara to Kande, the starting point of the Mardi Himal Base Camp Trek, accompanied by your guide. From Kande, the trail ascends to Australian Camp, continues through rhododendron forests to Pothana, and finally reaches Pitam Deurali. Along the way, you'll pass through Brahmin, Magar, and Gurung villages, with stunning views of the Annapurna range. Pitam Deurali offers an excellent vantage point of Pokhara Valley and the surrounding peaks. After checking in, spend the night at a lodge to rest and acclimatize for the journey ahead.
Proceed slowly and cautiously as the trail from Pitam Deurali gradually ascends. As you gain elevation, the landscape becomes increasingly lush. The path winds through forests of rhododendron, birch, oak, maple, and hemlock, with chances to spot wildlife such as leopards, deer, monkeys, and various bird species. Along the way, you'll enjoy glimpses of Annapurna South and Hiunchuli through the dense woods. After passing Forest Camp (Kokar) and Rest Camp, you’ll reach Low Camp, where you’ll be rewarded with stunning views of Fishtail Mountain.
Today’s trek leads from Low Camp to High Camp via Badal Danda. The trail begins with a one-hour ascent through rhododendron forest to reach Badal Danda. Though the route is steep and challenging, you'll be rewarded with spectacular views of Mardi Himal, the Annapurna Range, and Machhapuchhre (Fishtail Mountain). As you climb higher, the ridge narrows, offering sweeping views of the surrounding valleys. To the left lies the Modi Khola Valley, stretching toward the Annapurna Sanctuary, while to the right, the Mardi Khola and Seti River valleys unfold. On clear days, you may even spot Pokhara Valley in the distance. Continuing along the ridgeline, you’ll reach High Camp—keep an eye out for the colorful Daphne, Nepal’s national bird, along the way.
To catch the sunrise over the mountains, you'll start your day early. This will be the most memorable and challenging part of your Mardi Himal Trek. The route to Mardi Himal Base Camp involves steep, uneven ascents and takes about five hours. Reaching the base camp at 4,500 meters, surrounded by lush alpine terrain, brings a deep sense of accomplishment. You'll be rewarded with breathtaking views of Mt. Machhapuchhre, Mardi Himal, Annapurna I (8,091m), Annapurna III (7,555m), and Gangapurna (7,455m). After soaking in the scenery, you'll descend to Badal Danda, where you can enjoy the surreal experience of clouds drifting around you.
After enjoying the stunning Himalayan views and capturing memories at Badal Danda, you’ll begin your descent to the scenic village of Siding, following an alternative Mardi Himal Trek route that bypasses Forest Camp. After lunch in Siding, you’ll take a shared jeep back to Pokhara. The evening is free to enjoy boating or explore the charming lakeside area.
You’ll start the day early with a visit to Sarangkot to witness a breathtaking sunrise over Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, and Manaslu, along with panoramic views of Pokhara Valley and Phewa Lake. On the return to your hotel, you may visit Bindabasini, Pokhara’s oldest temple. After breakfast, you’ll take a deluxe tourist bus along the Prithvi Highway back to Kathmandu—a 7 to 8-hour journey covering 205 kilometers, depending on traffic. The drive offers changing landscapes and glimpses of lively towns like Damauli, Dumre, and Mugling. In the evening, celebrate the successful completion of your Mardi Himal Trek with a traditional Nepali dinner and live ethnic music. You’ll also have time to shop for souvenirs or capture a few last photos to remember your adventure.
We typically arrange your airport transfer three hours before your departure. If you have extra time, we can organize optional side trips, or you’re free to explore on your own.

Useful Information for Mardi Himal Trek
Best Season For Mardi Himal Base Camp Trek:
The Mardi Himal Trek can be done year-round, but autumn and spring are considered the best seasons for an unforgettable experience.
Autumn (September to November)
Autumn is the peak season for trekking in Nepal, including the Mardi Himal route. Following the monsoon, the weather clears up, offering:
- Crisp, clean air
- Excellent visibility of the Annapurna range
- Stunning landscapes and vibrant fall colors
This is the most popular time due to ideal temperatures and scenic beauty.
Spring (March to May)
Spring is the second-best time for the trek. Nature comes alive with:
- Blooming rhododendrons and other wildflowers
- Lush greenery and rejuvenated trails
- Generally clear skies with great mountain views
This pre-monsoon season is perfect for nature lovers, offering both beauty and pleasant trekking conditions.
Meals on Mardi Himal Trek:
Food is an essential part of your trekking experience. While options are basic, teahouses along the trail provide hearty and satisfying meals to keep you energized.
Breakfast
Breakfast fuels your day and is typically served before the trek begins. Common options include:
- Bread or chapati
- Eggs (boiled, scrambled, or omelets)
- Porridge or soup
- Pancakes (plain, honey, or apple)
Lunch
Lunch is considered the main meal of the day in Nepal. Most trekkers enjoy:
- Dal Bhat (rice, lentil soup, vegetables) – a staple and energy-rich option
- Noodles, pasta, momos (dumplings), pizza, burgers, and other local or Western-style dishes
Dinner
After a long day of hiking, dinner is a chance to relax and refuel. Teahouses offer:
- Similar options to lunch, including Dal Bhat and a variety of hot meals
- Hot and cold beverages (tea, coffee, soft drinks)
Note: While Nepalese trekkers often eat Dal Bhat twice a day, international trekkers can choose from a variety of familiar and local dishes.
Accommodation on the Mardi Himal Trek
The Mardi Himal Trek is a teahouse trek, meaning accommodation is provided in local guesthouses along the route. The trail passes through a remote and less populated part of the Annapurna region, so lodging is simple and limited in terms of amenities. Rooms are generally small and mostly twin-sharing. Private rooms may be available upon request, but cannot be guaranteed, especially during peak trekking seasons. Bathrooms may be shared or attached, depending on the location and availability. As altitude increases, accommodation options become more basic and harder to secure.
Difficulty Level of Mardi Himal Base Camp Trek
The Mardi Himal Trek is often overlooked but offers a moderate level of difficulty, making it suitable for beginners. Compared to treks like Everest Base Camp or Manaslu Circuit, it is relatively easier. However, some steep ascents can be challenging, especially for first-time trekkers. The most demanding section is the climb from High Camp to Base Camp, which involves steep and rocky terrain. Trails can become slippery during rain, especially through forested areas. Proper rest, hydration, and moderate fitness levels are key to a successful trek. No technical equipment such as ropes or ice axes is required.
Travel Insurance for the Mardi Himal Trek
Though the risk of altitude sickness on the Mardi Himal Trek is relatively low, travel insurance is essential. The trek may encounter unforeseen circumstances such as accidents, illness, landslides, or extreme weather. Your insurance must cover medical expenses, high-altitude evacuation, and helicopter rescue. While we can recommend providers based on our clients’ experiences, we do not offer insurance ourselves. Once you’ve booked your trek, please submit a copy of your insurance policy. In case of emergency, we will coordinate evacuation using the details provided.
Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) and Remedies
Altitude sickness, also known as Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS), may occur above 3,000 meters. Since Mardi Himal Base Camp sits at 4,500 meters, AMS is a potential risk. Common symptoms include headaches, fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea, dizziness, shortness of breath, and nosebleeds.
If symptoms appear, stop ascending and rest. If there’s no improvement, descend to a lower altitude. Stay well-hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids. Over-the-counter pain relievers like Tylenol or Ibuprofen (500 mg) can help manage symptoms. Acetazolamide (250 mg, twice daily) may also be used to prevent or treat AMS.
