Along the way, you’ll enjoy panoramic vistas of the Pokhara Valley, Tangting and Sikles villages, Lamjung Himal, Annapurna II, and the Lamjung Range. This trek, rated easy to moderate, showcases unspoiled natural beauty and cultural richness.

The region is home to the Ghale and Gurung communities, known for their distinct language, culture, and traditions. Both groups follow Buddhism and Bon Po, a spiritual practice that honors nature.

The 10-day Kori Danda Trek begins in vibrant Pokhara, where you’ll find all modern amenities before heading out. From there, a scenic 40 km jeep ride takes you to Sikles village, where you’ll stay in a traditional Gurung homestay—simple yet welcoming houses made of mud bricks, bamboo, and wood.

As the trek progresses, you’ll pass through serene forests, cross rivers and waterfalls, and witness spectacular mountain views and wildlife. From Sikles, you’ll hike to Hugu Goth, then ascend through a winding trail to Nohtha, and finally reach the stunning Kori Danda. After exploring, you’ll descend back to Sikles and return to Pokhara by jeep.

How to Prepare for the Kori Himal Trek?

Though considered easy to moderately challenging, the Kori Danda Trek still requires basic preparation:

  • Build endurance through cardio exercises like running, swimming, or cycling
  • Practice yoga or breathing exercises to improve stamina and acclimatization
  • Stay hydrated and carry water throughout your trek
  • Since the route is relatively new and remote, a certified guide is essential. They’ll assist with navigation, documentation, and ensure a smooth, safe experience

Best Time to Trek Kori Himal

Autumn (September to November)
Autumn is the best time for the Kori Himal Trek. Post-monsoon, the skies are clear, the air is fresh, and visibility of the surrounding mountains is excellent. It’s also one of Nepal’s peak trekking seasons.

Spring (March to May)
Spring is the second-best season. Blooming rhododendrons and lush greenery make the landscape vibrant and scenic. The weather is generally clear, offering excellent mountain views and a rejuvenating trekking experience.

Meals on the Trek

Breakfast
You’ll start your day with a nutritious meal that may include bread, chapati, eggs (boiled or omelet), soup, or pancakes.

Lunch
Dal Bhat (rice, lentils, and vegetables) is the traditional main course, favored by locals and trekkers alike. Other options include noodles, Tibetan bread, and pasta.

Dinner
Similar to lunch, dinners are hearty and satisfying, often with both local and international choices. Teahouses also serve hot and cold beverages.

Accommodation

The trek follows a teahouse route, with basic guesthouses in remote areas. Rooms are typically small and shared, with common bathrooms. Facilities are limited at higher elevations, especially during peak seasons.

Travel Insurance

While Kori Himal Trek is moderately challenging with minimal altitude risk (max altitude ~3800m), travel insurance is required. It should cover medical emergencies, helicopter evacuation, and high-altitude illness. We can recommend insurance providers based on client experience but do not sell insurance. Altitude Sickness

Altitude sickness (Acute Mountain Sickness or AMS) can occur above 3,000 meters. Symptoms include headache, nausea, dizziness, fatigue, and shortness of breath.
Prevention Tips:

  • Rest if symptoms appear
  • Descend if symptoms worsen

Difficulty Level

Kori Himal is a lesser-known and moderately difficult trek. The trail includes steep ascents and narrow, occasionally snowy paths, especially near Kori Danda. The terrain can be slippery in rain. No technical gear is required. Rest stops along the way make the trek manageable for beginners in good physical condition.
