Itinerary
After breakfast at your hotel in Pokhara, you'll board a jeep to Tikhedhunga, the starting point of the 2-Day Poon Hill Trek. The drive takes about 3 to 4 hours, passing through Hile and Sudame. While most trekkers begin in Nayapul, you'll save time by continuing by jeep to Ulleri, bypassing steep uphill sections that many find challenging. Along the way, enjoy views of scenic villages, terraced hills, mountain streams, and majestic peaks like Machhapuchhre and Annapurna South. However, due to the shorter itinerary, you won’t have time to stop and interact with locals in Hile or Sudame.
Upon reaching Ulleri, you'll have lunch before beginning the uphill trek to Ghorepani, which takes around 6 to 7 hours. The trail climbs steadily through meadows, rhododendron and oak forests, and pastureland. After about two hours, you’ll reach Banthanti (2,200m), a small Gurung village with a few lodges and eateries. From there, the trail continues north to Nangthanti (2,500m), crossing streams and gentle hills along the way. As you ascend, the mountain views become increasingly impressive.
The final stretch is a two-hour uphill hike from Nangthanti to Ghorepani, where you’ll be rewarded with stunning views of Machhapuchhre, Annapurna I, and other peaks. You’ll spend the night in a cozy, well-kept teahouse in Ghorepani.
Your final day begins before dawn, with a 45-minute hike from your lodge to the Poon Hill viewpoint (3,210m). The goal is to arrive in time to witness the breathtaking sunrise over the Himalayas. As the sun slowly rises above the hills, its golden rays illuminate peaks like Annapurna and Dhaulagiri, creating a magical, unforgettable scene.
After enjoying the view, you’ll descend back to Ghorepani for breakfast. The return trek to Tikhedhunga (1,500m) takes about 5 to 6 hours and is mostly downhill, making it easier than the previous day.
You’ll pass through Nangthanti in about two hours, where you can enjoy close-up views of Annapurna I. From there, it’s another hour to Banthanti, followed by a scenic stretch to Ulleri, where the trail features small streamlets and beautiful waterfalls.
As you descend from Ulleri to Tikhedhunga, you’ll walk past terraced fields, mustard plantations, and traditional Gurung villages, with striking views of the surrounding hills and mountains. After lunch in Tikhedhunga, you’ll board a jeep back to Pokhara, a 3-hour drive that marks the end of your unforgettable 2-Day Poon Hill Trek.
