Itinerary
After a hearty breakfast at your 3-star hotel in Thamel, you'll drive about an hour to Sundarijal, the starting point of the Chisapani Nagarkot Trek. A 30-minute hike from Sundarijal brings you to Shivapuri National Park, where you'll obtain your entry permit before continuing onward.
As you gradually ascend, you’ll reach Mulkharka, a local village where you can stop for lunch or refreshments. The trail then leads through a scenic forest and along stone-paved steps to Chisapani, a popular viewpoint known for its stunning sunrise and panoramic views of Gaurisankar, Ganesh Himal, Dorje Lakpa, and other nearby peaks.
Today, your Chisapani Nagarkot Trek continues through Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park, home to a diverse range of wildlife, including Indian leopards and Himalayan black bears. While larger animals are rarely seen, you may spot smaller species like mongooses, porcupines, jungle cats, and pangolins. Bird enthusiasts can look out for the yellow-throated marten and a variety of other bird species.
You’ll stop for lunch at Chauki Bhanjyang or Jhule before heading toward Nagarkot, aiming to arrive in time to watch the Himalayas emerge at dusk. In the evening, enjoy panoramic views from the viewing tower or another scenic spot, followed by a satisfying dinner at one of Nagarkot’s many hotels, which range from budget-friendly to upscale options.
One of the highlights of the Chisapani Nagarkot Trek is this morning’s spectacular sunrise over eight of the thirteen Himalayan peaks. As the sun rises, clouds may drift across the sky—briefly hiding, then revealing the majestic mountains—creating a truly magical scene. All of this is enjoyed with a warm breakfast in the crisp mountain air.
Reluctantly leaving this natural spectacle behind, you'll begin a mostly downhill hike of about four hours to Changu Narayan Temple.
Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, Changu Narayan is considered the oldest temple in Nepal. Although the 2015 earthquake damaged parts of the Changu Narayan Monument Zone, restoration efforts by UNESCO and other organizations have preserved much of its cultural value. Nearby, a fascinating living museum—which remained intact—offers a glimpse into Nepali and Newari art, culture, and history.
Your trek concludes with a short drive back to Kathmandu, marking the end of this enriching journey.
