About UsLearning More About Green Lotus TrekkingThe trekking organization "GREEN LOTUS TREKKING" was created in 1990 by Pasang Sherpa, who, as a boy, was already active in trekking, Lakpa Doma, the first Nepalese woman to climb a seven thousander, Jangbu Sherpa, who helped Pieter Matthiesen in his search for the snow leopard, and Roger De Groen, a Belgian, vice-president of the Belgium Nepal Friendship Association, active for more than 20 years in organizing group travel to Nepal and Tibet. Green Lotus Trekking is a small organization and does not really intend to become big : guests should feel at home here thanks to a personal approach, the fruit of 20 years of experience in travel and trekking organization. Right from the start Green Lotus Trekking's main concern was ecological in respecting both local staff and nature. GLT guarantees both her staff and the porters a good salary. A life insurance is taken out for staff members during the trek kings. For permanent staff an old age pension fund was created. For high mountain treks, GLT, of course, provides adequate equipment for staff and porters. During trekkings, the sirdars keep a watchful eye on guests and staff to prevent all damage to nature. Cooking is done, right from the start, on kerosene stoves. When selecting lodges, it is important that the owner should not use wood as fuel. All camping sites are left clean and tidy. GLT does not only organize trek kings, but also expeditions (e.g. Dhaulagiri and Makalu), cultural traveling and white water rafting.
